THE KNYSNA FOREST · SOUTH AFRICA
She didn’t leave the herd.
The herd disappeared.
01 / HER STORY
Deep in South Africa’s Knysna forest, one elephant still walks the paths her ancestors made.
Believed to be the last surviving member of the forest population, Strangefoot is over fifty years old. She should have become the matriarch of a herd. Instead, she learned to move through the trees alone.
Still moving quietly through the ancient Knysna forest.
Old enough to lead a herd that is no longer there.
A wider conservation effort reconnecting fragmented habitat.
